The 2019 AAHA Dental Care Guidelines question the use of hard treats such as antlers because they can damage teeth. They also direct owners toward products with evidence for the claimed dental effect. Correct sizing does not convert a hard antler into a proven dental treatment.
Check the exact dental claim
The Veterinary Oral Health Council accepted-products list identifies products and their accepted plaque or tartar claims. Check the product name, species, size, directions and claim. A seal or study for one product cannot be applied to another product or to all natural chews.
