A split antler is cut lengthways, exposing the softer marrow channel. Dogs typically engage with it faster because the interior is immediately accessible, and it is the easier of the two cuts to start a dog on. It is consumed faster than a whole antler of the same size.

Elk antler is generally less hard and dense than deer antler and has a larger, more accessible marrow channel; hardness varies by antler section and cut.

How to use this chew safely

Antler is a hard chew. Veterinary opinion on hard chews is genuinely divided, and tooth fracture is the risk most often raised. We would rather tell you how to reduce that risk than pretend it does not exist.
